Kevin Costner Was Very lucky to Have People Turn Up To His Corn Field

“Build it and they will come”. Fields of Dreams

In the 1989 movie the lead character played by Kevin Costner strolls about his crop field and he hears a voice saying “If you build it, he will come”. After having visions he builds a baseball field and miraculously he gets loads of people turn up to watch the game he had arranged.  And all this was without Twitter, Facebook or a website.

However….. putting on a gig is not like this!

If you want people to turn up to your gig, you need to tell people about it. People won’t come unless you tell them.

How To Construct Your Set List? Start At The End

Performing as part of the Harvey Duo, Alan Harvey and I once spent ages before a gig deciding in what order to play our songs. Every now and again I visit an Hypnotherapist. His name is Peter Delves and he helps me with the “Issues” I occasionally have. I have to admit I am in two minds about Peter. Is he a top bloke? Or, has he actually hypnotised me to think that he is a top bloke? Maybe he has hypnotised me into writing about him?

I first went to see him after falling off  my roof. (It was actually more of a Lean-Two. About 9 feet high and 50 feet wide – but it was high enough). It was a busy old day. It was Louise’s birthday, and Matthew was playing in a football cup final and we wanted to get there on time.

How Do You Get More Gigs?

I’ve been a singer songwriter for over 40 years (which, to be honest, scares the hell out of me) and in that time I have worked with hundreds of musicians of various abilities.

Over the years I have noticed that some artists are really good at selling themselves. They know what content to include on their website, how to network on different Social Media sites and they are constantly connecting with their audience.
